Sorry I haven't been writing lately... I kinda left Liera in the middle of something! Where was I? Oh yeah, I left it off where Alex hugs Liera... what, did you guys think I was going to let the opportunity slip by for some sort of romance to happen? And besides, it was a lot of fun writing this particular part! We get to see a part of Liera that we normally isn't revealed! Teehee, hope you guys enjoy!
Liera's heart started pounding, and she froze, uncertain of what to do. She almost pushed him away, but he was holding on too tight, pinning her arms to her side. Liera could feel his heart beating slowly, steadily; and her own heart started to follow that beat.
Slowly, and carefully, making sure she didn't seem desperate to escape, she tentatively freed her arms and hugged him back. 'Oh,' she thought simply, and it felt like she and Alex were in their own bubble, unattached to anything else in the world.
"Alex! There you are!" shrieked a nasally voice, followed by several giggles. "We've been looking everywhere for you! Have you been trying to hide from us?"
The moment was broken, and Liera and Alex scrambled to separate. Liera felt mortified, and she tried to ease her thoughts by smoothing out her hair. She looked over at the groupies, and sighed in annoyance as she recognized them.
"Hello Liera," said the bleach-blonde leader of the 5 Puppets. Although they had sweet smiles pasted on, Liera could see envy blazing in their eyes. The birds that belonged to them chirped and warbled in contempt. Yumi stuck out her tongue and scampered behind Liera.
"Hello Lucy. Or should I say, Lucinda?" she said coldly, not wanting to have to deal with them at the moment.
Lucy's eyes widened in shock, while some of the girls had to stifle giggles. Lucy whipped around to face them and they shut up immediately. She turned back to Liera, her body stiff with anger.
"How many times have I told you never to call me that?" she hissed. "My name is Lucy, not some old grandma's name!"
"Oh big deal. It's only a name," Liera said nonchalantly, trying to avoid a fight just waiting to begin. Liera felt a little strange, acting so rudely to these girls, but she wouldn't let these girls say those things without standing up for herself.
Lucy looked like she was about to pounce on her, but instead turned her attention to Alex and put on her sweetest smile. "Alex, dear, don't you want to hang out with us," she cooed, her voice dripping with honey, "instead of that plain, self-pitying little-"
"Don't continue that sentence," Alex said vehemently, which shut Lucy right up. "If I hear anything more, I swear-"
"Alex, don't," said Liera quietly. "I need to go pack up anyways. I'm leaving tomorrow." She stood up and brushed her clothes. As she walked past Lucy and her gang, they all turned to look at her with triumphant smiles.
"If I ever see you with your hands on him again, I'll make your life miserable," hissed Lucy. Liera just kept on walking.
"Alex, let's go somewhere different," Liera could hear Lucy say. "There are too many annoying bugs around here." Lucy let out an obnoxious cackle, her mockingbird echoing her.
Liera turned around and watched the group leave. Lucy had her arm around Alex possessively while the others trailed behind, keeping a respectful -and possibly fearful- distance. Just the sight of them gave Liera a pounding headache.
She was about to leave and try to forget about the whole incident when Alex turned briefly and waved. She smiled, and wished that she wasn't leaving him behind, that she could stay with him forever. Even just as friends.
